Winter Sports

This term we are looking at winter sports like netball, soccer and rugby.  We've worked on chest and bounce passes and intercepting.  During tabloids we get to show off the skills we have learnt during our class PE lessons.  Room 32 are awesome at demonstrating fair play and team work.  The most important thing they learn during our lessons is that it's all about having fun.

Diana Adams

We've spent some time looking at the works of Diana Adams.  She is a New Zealand artist.  As a class we decided to work on an image cooperatively.  First we chose an image then we had to split it into sections.  It took a lot of team work to get the final product, but we really enjoyed ourselves.

Splish Splash

Our students were given the opportunity to participate in swimming lessons once a week for five weeks at no charge to families.  The students were grouped based on their ability and confidence in the water.  It was awesome to see the level of confidence grow over the weeks and the lessons were a huge source of enjoyment for the students.

OUR TRIP TO MOTAT

YEAR 6 TRIP TO MOTAT

This term the Year 6 team went to MOTAT as part of our Being a New Zealander topic.  We had hands on experiences with early NZ settler and Maori games, clothes and tools.  For many of the students it was their first time visiting MOTAT so it was a valuable learning experience.

Tuakana - Teina

This term Room 32 and Room 5 have joined forces in a Tuakana - Teina (buddy class) programme.  We meet once a week to share in activities such as shared reading, sport and arts and crafts.  This programme has worked well for both the older and younger students.  Room 32 students have made comments like "it makes us think of other people not just ourselves", "it helps the little kids know that someone else cares for them".  We look forward to the rest of the year and sharing more learning moments with our buddy class.
